Jerez de la Frontera, 19 October 2022 – The editorial world’s largest book fair, Frankfurter Buchmesse, kicked off on Wednesday 19 October with Spain as the Guest of Honour. Running until the 23st October, the Spanish pavilion will bring together around 200 authors, translators and representatives of the global book industry. It aims to present “Spain as a creative and dynamic country, a nexus for new themes, from changes in gender roles and the family, to vibrant sketches of urban life in Spanish cities, rural depopulation, as well as reflections on the past, the use of technology and climate change,” explained Elvira Marco, the project commissioner, in her opening speech.

With more than three decades having passed since Spain was first invited to the fair as guest of honour, this is a new opportunity to show contemporary Spain through a diverse and well-balanced portfolio of authors, centring on multilingualism and highlighting the importance of Spanish as a bridge to Latin America.

At this very special edition, two iconic wines from Bodegas Lustau will be present at all the events in the Spanish pavilion. Manzanilla Papirusa and Lustau Red Vermouth were served at the official opening of the pavilion on the 18th October, and at the reception that took place afterwards, hosted by their Majesties the King & Queen of Spain. Lustau’s wines can also be enjoyed by editors, writers and visitors who visit the events taking place over the next few days in the Spanish pavilion, as well as in permanent food and drink areas across the fair.
