To the west, the region is flanked by the <strong>Atlantic Ocean<\/strong> and is located within the area delineated to the east by the Greenwich meridian 5\u00ba 49 West and to the north by the parallel 36\u00b0 58\u2019 North.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Sherry region climate is primarily influenced by <strong>two large seas<\/strong> with different temperatures and characteristics: the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The region serves as the gateway for Atlantic storms and rough weather. The combination of its low latitude, proximity to the <strong>Atlantic <\/strong>Ocean, Africa, and the <strong>Mediterranean <\/strong>Sea results in a <strong>coastal climate<\/strong> for the Jerez region, characterized by <strong>mild temperatures<\/strong> and <strong>relatively high humidity<\/strong> (with some exceptions in certain areas). The Atlantic has a significant influence on temperature regulation in this area.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The climate of this PDO is characterized by a <strong>moderate temperature range,<\/strong> without prolonged periods of high temperatures or extreme coldwaves. The average annual temperature typically ranges from <strong>15\u00baC to 19\u00baC (59\u00baF to 66\u00baF)<\/strong>, while the rainfall varies between <strong>600 and 700 mm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">These conditions make the<strong> region&#8217;s meteorology<\/strong> particularly <strong>unstable<\/strong>, facing challenges in weather forecasting. Jerez is an area where forecasting rain, wind shifts, or rainfall is hard to handle.<strong> Sherry region is unpredictable. It always gives room for surprises or extreme weather changes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\n<style>\n#text-1770075041 {\n  text-align: left;\n}\n<\/style>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\" style=\"max-width:1043px\" id=\"row-946249176\">\n\n\t<div id=\"col-101482763\" class=\"col medium-8 small-12 large-8\"  >\n\t\t<div class=\"col-inner\"  >\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t<div id=\"text-2214886558\" class=\"text\">\n\t\t\n<h3> THE INFLUENCE OF LATITUDE: WARMTH AND SUNLIGHT <\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\"> <strong>Latitudes <\/strong>suitable for <strong>viticulture <\/strong>are found between 32\u00ba and 51\u00ba in the <strong>northern hemisphere<\/strong> and between <strong>28\u00ba and 42\u00ba <\/strong>in the <strong>southern hemisphere.<\/strong> The temperature decreases by 1\u00baC every 180 km towards the north and south poles, creating colder climates in the northernmost regions of Europe, for example, or very warm year-round areas near the Equator (0\u00ba parallel). <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Jerez is located at parallel 36\u00ba<\/strong> in the northern hemisphere, very close to the limit of the ideal space for grape growing. The ocean plays a fundamental role, as mentioned before,<strong> regulating temperature<\/strong> and establishing a characteristic level of <strong>humidity <\/strong>in the area. Despite being within the suitable latitude range for viticulture,<strong> without the presence of the ocean,<\/strong> it would be very difficult to achieve the <strong>high quality<\/strong> found in the <strong>wines of this PDO.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Simultaneously, there is another factor related to meters above sea level: <strong>altitude<\/strong>. Altitude influences<strong> atmospheric pressure and temperature; <\/strong>therefore, at higher altitudes, there is lower atmospheric pressure and lower temperature.<strong> Jerez is not a region with significant altitude,<\/strong> mainly due to its proximity to the Atlantic. However, <strong>altitude <\/strong>does contribute to the wonderful <strong>diversity of mesoclimates<\/strong> within the region. For example, Jerez is slightly warmer and less humid than El Puerto de Santa Mar\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The <strong>altitude<\/strong> and <strong>proximity to the sea<\/strong> directly influence the initial planning of vineyards and the daily operations of wineries.<strong> Lower altitude <\/strong>and closer <strong>proximity to the sea<\/strong> result in <strong>less temperature variation<\/strong> and a smaller contrast between maximum and minimum temperatures. Conversely, <strong>higher altitude<\/strong> and <strong>greater distance<\/strong> from the sea lead to <strong>more significant temperature differences<\/strong>. Inland vs coastal.<\/i><br \/>\n\t<div id=\"gap-654914049\" class=\"gap-element clearfix\" style=\"display:block; height:auto;\">\n\t\t\n<style>\n#gap-654914049 {\n  padding-top: 25px;\n}\n<\/style>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n<div class=\"row\" style=\"max-width:1043px\" id=\"row-184842890\">\n\n\t<div id=\"col-1684868676\" class=\"col medium-8 small-12 large-8\"  >\n\t\t<div class=\"col-inner\"  >\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n<p align=\"justify\">    \u2022 <strong>Montegilillo<\/strong> is the perfect example of the characteristic albariza vineyard of Jerez: a moderate elevation, located in the inland area of Jerez de la Frontera (at pago Montegil), with a notably interesting slope. Around 33 Km from the Ocean and an altitude of 65 &#8211; 87 m above sea level. Temperature (and mainly humidity) are different: this vineyard is warm, directly influenced by the sun, with little effect from the ocean, creating a low rate of humidity. Consequently, vines and grapes ripe early, promoting an early harvest.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">    \u2022 <strong>Las Cruces<\/strong>, however, is the perfect model of a less known style of vineyard in the region: a property that is very close to the Atlantic (3 Km), with almost no elevation (just 31 m above the sea level in its highest point) and located in Chipiona. Las Cruces is, as an opposite to Montegilillo, 100% coastal.
