WHO INVENTED THE CORONATION NO. 1 COCKTAIL?

Like many classic cocktails during the pre-prohibition era, the inventor of the Coronation is a mystery. The first Coronation Cocktail is believed to have been developed to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902. Bartenders of that era often crafted drinks to mark significant royal or political occasions, and if popular enough, they stick around after the ceremony is over. Given how popular martinis are, it is no surprise that the Coronation Cocktail has survived since its inception.

WHAT GLASS IS A CORONATION COCKTAIL SERVED IN?

The Coronation No. 1 is traditionally served in a coupe glass, but you could use a Nick & Nora or vintage Martini glass as well.

WHAT VERMOUTH IS BEST FOR A CORONATION COCKTAIL?

Traditionally, the Coronation calls for dry, French vermouth. However, any dry vermouth will work with our recipe. Vermut Lustau Dry is very herbaceous and has a great briny character, which adds depth and complexity to this subtle cocktail. Thanks to its wine base (manzanilla de Sanlúcar) it brings a delicate, nutty note that pairs beautifully with the maraschino liqueur, enhancing the cocktail’s classy, elegant and nuanced flavor profile.

SIMPLE CORONATION NO 1 INGREDIENTS LIST

1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass

2.Add ice, stir, and strain into a chilled coupe glass
